Traditional Ugandan world beat Jazz
Our musical friend, KINOBE (pronounced chi-no-bay), helped us launch the first UTB/USI collaboration of the Global Crossroads Festival and we are excited to welcome him back to celebrate our 20th season! Kinobe is a Ugandan singer/ songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose work has been described as “some of the most exquisite music coming out of Africa today.” For more than 15 years, he has captivated audiences around the world with his soothing African rhythms, understated vocals and powerful, pulsing and invigorating world-roots-dance melodies that emanate from the many traditional instruments he has customized to develop his unique sound as he performs. Along with touring every corner of the globe, and recording ten albums, Kinobe has developed his dream in Uganda, Dance of Hope, a nonprofit organization that uses the transforming power of music, dance and storytelling to educate and empower young people and improve life quality in impoverished communities; it brought a troupe of 15 students to the US in 2018 for their first coast to coast tour. Kinobe’s outstanding talent and genuine warmth radiates from the stage and it’s then you begin to understand how this global ambassador, through his music, is changing the world.
